For Asians everywhere, the Lunar New Year is a time for reunion, gratitude, hope and joy for many (not necessarily in that order). For a group of senior citizens, the hot afternoon of 16th February 2011 was no different. A Chinese New Year lunch was organized by the Pastoral Care Ministry and it was a roaring success!
Five tables of senior citizens (inclusive of several other individuals advanced in age but not necessarily 'Senior' in this context), which also includes a sassy 80's Club, confidently showed us young 'uns how the Goldies roll. Look-up any thesaurus for 'old' or 'elderly' and you will find words like 'antiquated', 'dilapidated', 'antediluvian' and 'decrepit'. However, you will find none of that stuff here. The Goldies (as I affectionately call them behind their backs) are all spirited and fun-loving. Lovely. Absolutely lovely.
Check out a few pictures I was 'commissioned' to shoot of the event. My payment? Fish stomache soup, pork trotters, satay chicken, steamed fish and some sticky rice concoction. Where's the banana leaf rice when you need some?
